HELP! 2.8 GPA 18O MCAT... What should I do?
–1 vote
I have two bachelors degrees, one which is in neuroscience. But, I didn't get into any SMP programs this year and I am desperately trying to attend MD or DO school. I'm not sure if I should:

a. retake classes like... gen chem, orgo, cell bio, calc, & micro bio (all are C's)
b. take upper level science classes like immuno, genetics, or more neuro classes
c. do both???
d. do neither, work and study hard for the MCAT and ace it then apply to SMP programs
e. none of the above and your suggestion would be...?

Pulling straight A's in all prereqs would surely help, but you're going to be digging yourself deep into more debt.  Worrying about the MCAT right now should be your last thought, you really need to fix that GPA.

I disagree with what the previous person wrote. Many SMPs will require that you have at least a 30 MCAT. With your GPA you really should do an SMP or Post-Bacc of some kind so I would work on raising your MCAT so that you are more competitive for one of these programs.`
